Journaling reads:
I hadn’t plugged My external Hard Drive into my Laptop n forever.
Just taking for Granted that it Was still working. Pluegged into my
Powestrip all happy. Then, I was told, my external star ted making
Really loud unhappy noises. So the powerstrip was turned Off (deep
breaths - it was making Noises, but REALLY? YIKES! Then (of course) I
couldn’t get it to load. It said There was a driver error. So I Looked
online for a driver. And on my computer. Install a New driver, right?!
My computer said,”The correct driver is Already installed on your
device.” Um..huh?! I can’t find it. Still Getting Driver Error. Looking
At the troubleshooting on the website- trying other USB ports and
making sure the one I put it in works (It did). After plugging it in
to my dad’s computer (no luck) - none of Those tests showed that the
drive was going to work. So I’m pretty sure My external drive is dead.
Suddenly That box of DVD’s, CD’s and Flash Drives are my only backups.
GREAAAT. Especially since my early Backups of family photos and stuff are Duplicates. Do I need 3 disks with the same Pictures? No. I do not. And what pictures/kits Didn’t get backed up.I know there are Tons of kits that didn’t get backed up AT ALL. But I’m actually ok. I know there are a lot of Things I just didn’t have the heart to delete. And Everything I’ve used for the last 3 years are on my Laptop. And you better believe that what isn’t backed Up yet on here I am backing up!!

Oh, no!! I know your heart had to sink when you heard those noises! It could just be that the power supply or controller in the EHD enclosure is bad, but the drive itself may be okay. It is possible to take them out of their enclosures and put them in new ones- maybe you could find someone to try that for you? If you lived close to me I'd do it for you!

Well, the bottom did come apart, so that could be it. Thanks!! :)

Yikes! thankfully it sounds like it is ok anyway. I know I'd be stressing and upset. What a story to document!

@scrappyjedi Oh, I didn't tag you, so you probably didn't see my reply, sorry. Thank you for your help. The bottom did pop out when my dad was bringing it back from his computer, so that could be it. :) We don't have a spare, but we have a used computer shop that would probably be able to help if I took it in, I think.
