DAY 9_LETTER TO FUTURE SELF_Discipline=London (londoncuppa)
JOURNALING (414 words+date):
Well, you did it. A year ago, Jim issued you a challenge. Put yourself on a budget. Reduce your spending (however you wanted to go about doing it), with the idea that we would use the money saved to pay off/reduce our long-term debt (i.e. the kitchen remodel loan, the girls’ student loans, etc.). He knew you well enough to know that for you to make the drastic lifestyle/personality changes he was suggesting, you needed to be working towards something you really wanted in order to be truly successful. He also knew what has been your heart’s desire since you were 11 years old.
So, he was sneaky and dangled the carrot of your dream trip to England in front of you. He said it might take a year or two (or three) but if you’re successful, he’ll take you. Promise. You remember how we had previously talked about going on our 20-year wedding anniversary? That was 8 years ago, and you never went!
Luckily for Jim, a budget and refocus of your priorities was something you had already planned on concentrating on in 2018. You had decided last December that your 2018 One Little Word was going to be “DISCIPLINE.” This was something you needed A LOT OF (plus prayer never hurt) if you were going to successfully cut way back in new scrap/stamp/craft/art/everything else-purchases and to curb your natural supply-hoarding tendencies.
With the gauntlet thrown down, you immediately began canceling subscriptions, including most of your scrapbooking/stamping kit clubs. In the end, you kept your subscriptions to Cocoa Daisy Project Life, the Studio Calico Stamp Kit, and your digital subscriptions at The Lilypad. I know canceling your subscription to Quaintly UK hurt you greatly, but you saved almost $1,000 this year just canceling Quaintly alone!
Here we are at the end of 2018, and you weren’t sure you could do it, but you did. You’re still a hoarder of everything scrappy-related (discipline does NOT equate to miracles…lol), but you’ve lived your One Little Word this year and have purchased very little new stuff. Instead, you’ve done an excellent job of using what you already own, and now you’re that much closer to achieving your dream vacation. You should be right chuffed with yourself. I knew you could do it!
