Journaling (296 words):
THEN: When we moved into our house in 2003 there wasn’t any carpet in our living room, but there were tack strips all the way around the room, so we knew there had been carpet until recently. There was hard wood flooring in there, but we both really like carpet so we went ahead and put in brand new carpet, especially since we received $5,000 at closing to go towards new carpet in the whole house. At that time, we didn’t have kids, so we naively put in almost white carpet. It was beautiful and very soft and gorgeous, but it did not last. We barely spent any time in the living room and it was basically a giant hallway and the traffic pattern on the carpet soon showed that all too clearly. Even after 7 years, you can already seen a path starting to shown where we walk most frequently. After 14 years, and 13 years with kids, you can clearly see a distinct dirt path through the whole room. I kind of laughed after I took the last picture of our carpet because you can clearly see where we walk into the bathroom and three bedrooms off the hallway. The rest of the carpet was in fairly good shape, but there was no cleaning the walkway, so we decided the carpet had to go.
NOW: Starting on November 18th, James and I tore out all of the carpet. The harder part was removing all of the tack strips and repairing all of the gouges out of the hard wood from when they installed the carpet and used a carpet stretcher. The wood isn’t in perfect condition and will need to be refinished, but for now it is definitely an improvement over the dirty carpet!
