Journal (272 word count) "Without music, life would be a blank to me.”― Jane Austen. Music has embedded itself in my personality and I fondly attach memories to songs and melodies. Most of my special moments in life are accompanied by the music that was happening around me at the time. My husband and I chose a special worship song to begin our whole married life as we exited the ceremony down the aisle, "Step by Step" by Rich Mullins. Or the sweet little preschool tunes we would sing at the top of our lungs with all three kids smooshed in the back seat of the car. I hold special attachments to "Piano Man" by Billy Joel to recall how proud I was of our son who toured with a drum corp one summer. My daughters attended a worship retreat and I love hearing those songs as it reminds me how much the kids love each other. The kids are always quick to share a song with me and I with them (Sleeping at Last, TobyMac, Twenty One Pilots, Chulcha Vulcha). Music is a form of expression and communication in our family. I can always turn on the radio or Spotify and find a song that strikes a chord to match my emotions, or change my attitude. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato. I'm grateful for the exposure I had to music. Being the daughter of a music educator, my Mom was my choir director for several years. Communicating through music is something I attribute to her influence in my life.
