Journaling reads:
By July 1878, George and Annie Todd had moved to Fulbeck, Lincolnshire, near her parents. The 1881 census shows George’s occupation as groom. A look at an 1886 map puts their residence at what is now the Manor Stables Art Centre. That makes sense - the family probably lived in a cottage on the grounds, possibly like the one at top right. Annie’s father lived just a couple of miles distant in a farm house. His occupation was farm bailiff, a highly responsible, well-paid position. He and George probably worked for the Fane family, Lords and Ladies of Fulbeck Hall. They owned most of the parish. As bailiff, William Winter would have lived in a house similar to or larger than the second picture at right. In 1871 he lived near or on the premises of Gallipot Hall and had not moved. His near neighbor and friend was also farm bailiff and lived in Gallipot. Little Sarah would have seen the lane in the bottom picture when they passed by Holywell farm on the way to visit her grandparents.
