Description

Grammie always said she and Pa were the inspiration for the Grant Wood painting American Gothic. She said one summer this young painter stopped by their farm in Eldon and did several sketches of them and the house. Months later, they received a letter from the man with a charcoal sketch. He said he had used it as inspiration for an oil painting he’d just finished although he’d used his sister’s and dentist’s faces in the painting.

The old farm house in Eldon, Iowa

My favorite picture of Pa and Grammie Dibble, circa 1930. She had a great laugh!

This is the sketch we found in Grammie’s old bible after the funeral.
Notice it’s signed by Grant Wood.

“American Gothic”

Love this! What an absolutely perfect story and love the charcoal sketch with the pitchfork etc... awesome imagination.. Love this!!

love the story and the page! how fun to turn it into a sketch and incorporate into this story. love it!

How in the world did you turn the inspiration photo into the sketch so it looks like the Grant Wood painting?!  Your details in the story are wonderful.  Is that a photo of the real house from the painting.  This is just so creative and imaginative.

Your imagination is just over the top! Great story, and I love the swap out of pics. :-)
