Journaling:
"Here you go duckies", a chubby little hand sailed magnetic, neon letters over the balcony and into the imaginary pond below. One by one they tumbled into what was actually the downstairs neighbor's garden, though you couldn\'t have convinced that three-year old girl it was anything, but a big, beautiful pond full of ducks.
The tiny, toddler was me, and it's one of my earliest childhood memories.
The next day I recall climbing into the back seat of our family car, just as our
elderly neighbor came over with a small, brown, paper bag. She passed it through the window to my daddy and said,
"I think someone might be missing these.", with a sweet smile and a wink at me.
My dad peeked into the bag, showed my mom and then passed it over the enormous back seat to my outstretched arms.
When I looked inside I was amazed to see the magnetic letters that had been duck food the day before.
My mother glanced over her shoulder inquisitively at me and I explained,
"I was feedin\' the ducks mama!".
She smiled and I vaguely remember hearing the mumbled voices of adults apologizing, thanking, giggling, but I was lost in the wonder of what magic had brought my brightly colored duck food back to me and planning what I would do with it next.
