Journaling:
Jack was so excited when he got his new Spider-Man shoes. But the following day after wearing them to preschool, Jack said he didn't want to wear them again, not until he started kindergarten. That didn't make sense to me, so I kept asking questions as to why. Finally the story came out.
"Mommy, Calvin was this much ahead of me! [Jack's arms are stretched wide and his face is hurt and mad.] "Some shoes have this much fast power [his hands are held 6 inches apart] and my shoes only have this much power!" [His hands are nearly touching and a hurt frown is on his face.]
I get it now. His friend Calvin beat him in a race and Jack doesn't want to wear the shoes again, as long as he's in school with Calvin. Oh, my beautiful baby boy..."Okay honey, we'll save those shoes for later." That Friday was Calvin's last day at preschool and Jack was happily wearing his Spider-Man shoes the following week.

Such a cool page! Love the photo and extraction, and terrific use of elements, and the papers... just everything! The journaling is wonderful... what an understanding mom you are. So glad the shoes only had a short sabbatical!
