The centerpiece of the campus is the Akshardham Mahamandir (Hindu house of worship). Spanning 185 acres and standing 191 feet tall,Akshardhamis the second largest Hindu mandir in the world and one of the most unique Hindu stone mandirs built in the last 600 years. The temple is covered in thousands of hand-carved statues, pillars, and other motifs. It has nine spire-like structures called shikhars, which symbolize human aspirations towards the divine. The elliptical dome is the largest stone dome ever built. Two herds of elephant sculptures flank the grand staircase.
Inside, the temple has a central shrine and 12 sub-shrines, each dedicated to a different Hindu deity. There are 548 intricately carved marble pillars, or stambhas, some of which depict stories from Hindu scriptures.
i love how intricate all the architecture is, I can't imagine how long all that handcrafted work takes - definitely a labour of love and hopefully some divine help along the way!
These are amazing travel photos and I'm in awe how you scrapped them. Your journaling is perfect to and an example of what I need to do when I scrap mine. Great page!
