This sculpture by Seward Johnson at the Grounds for Sculpture always moves me. Double Check is a life-size bronze of a businessman as he sifts through his briefcase. In 1982, it was installed in Liberty Plaza Park in lower Manhattan. On September 11, 2001, everything was in ruins, but this figure remained. Rescue workers approached him only to discover it was a sculpture. It became a memorial and metaphor for the city that survived the attack.
This version of the sculpture shows the survivor sitting among the ruins.
What an awesome sculpture! I never heard of that, and I grew up on Long Island and lived there for 30 years.. This is amazing. Love the large blended photo of the statue into the background and the smaller torn framed photo of the same. Amazing with the pop of seafoam green that reminds me of the shade copper turns after years of being out in the elements.. wow! Love this! Thank you for playing along with Anja's AWA Jan 2025 B/W with pop of color challenge 2.
