Ugly Cake
Every New Year's Eve, we make an ugly cake to celebrate the new year's birthday. A simple cake in three layers, filled with chocolate mousse and mashed banana. Then adding as ugly decor as it's possible.
You already know my son is copying this tradition, but I wanted to tell you how much I love this layout too. I love the vertical flow of the photos which you softened with the curved dividing piece of paper. Simply gorgeous!
this page made me smile so big just now! i so, so, SO love your tradition and how it embraces and celebrates that we aren't all masterchefs and that it's more about how food tastes in the end anyway! (i also actually really liked that there was a trend called 'ugly dolls' maybe a decade back now too (well before the movie they made where they 'prettied them up!) and they were hand sewn and had mismatched buttons for eyes and crooked smiles and were just delightfully imperfect and that's what made them fun just like your cakes! i can imagine that taking the pressure off to make the Perfect cake just means you can enjoy backing together and that's so wonderful!)
