Monthly Muse April 2023 - Week 4 | Ability - Inadequacy

Red paper from Paula Kesslering's Mixed Bundle 2
Flairs from Paula's Flair Box 11

This art journal page almost did not see the light of day. I was following along with a class on how to make whimsical, semi-transparent flowers followed by using them to make a flower bouquet. My flowers melted into a chaotic, muddy background that truly had few redeeming qualities. I was about to throw the piece into the garbage. Until I came cross this Neil Gaiman quote on IG. I realized I was trying something new. I was making all sorts of mistakes too! :rofl Seeing the quote I felt better. And I remembered something the instructor said, if you don't like what you paint, just paint over it.

And I did. I painted over my muddy mess with bright white acrylic paint. And when I adhered a second set of flowers, they popped from the page. No more melting.

So I think this experience is perfect for the Week 4 Muse. It is a reminder that inadequacies can be turned into ability. Just, don't give up. Make mistakes.

Neil Gaiman quote:
"I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.

So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”
and I thought, Oh I found my POP for this week so fast!! of course, is a page of yours, and what a page!!!!! visually striking, as you do, and with a quote that brings so much to mind & heart... isn't Gaiman the Sandman guy? he wrote the comics? Sarita inherited Andy's collection, he was hooked on Sandman since early on, and now we have an almost complete collection in their original sleeves.... anyway, love (and it takes the page to a higher level) the way the page came to be, thanks so much for sharing this, every page of yours makes me admire you and love you more :)
Into the APRIL Froggy Faves!!!!

@MrsPeel Yes - Gaiman is the Sandman guy. Thats quite a treasure Sarita has! Along with my barracks mates I read the graphic novels when I first entered the Army. One guy bought the novel/magizine/comic (ha!) and it was passed around the barracks. I regret not buying it myself.

P.S. I feel badly your body is not cooperating. I hope your docs can get you some wrist braces and into physical therapy. The wrist braces helped me a lot!

Love hearing the story behind your page. The final result is gorgeous and I am in love with that red background.

@ArmyGrl Oh I would have loved an experience like being in the barracks with the guys!!! and yes, a total treasure, it was supposed to be to pay for her Uni, but the family helped with half the tuition and Sarita payed the rest with her work, so it is there for her future, maybe wedding or a baby.... I pray that I can live to see it!!!!
Braces yes, those were what helped me to get back to scrapping, I haven't been in much pain since I started with them, and, to be honest, I thought the diagnose would be some kind of arthritis because I had not been in much pain until I scrapped lots of pages for SOSN a couple of weeks ago, but then I wasn't ion much pain when I went for the test..... I keep praying and hoping :) Thanks for being present, you know you are super inspiring and I love you!!!!

Love your journaling and your little story about the flowers -- they are terrific and what a great page.
