Next year it will be 20 years since the operation that was supposed to give me the hips I wanted all my life, get me back to work, stop the pain and other things, left me with not just no being able to work, but a myriad of collateral conditions, including the heart failure one.This is a VERY, very, long story involving a congenital condition, but I will try shorten it:
was born with lateral hip dysplasia- didn't walk till aged 5, 9 operations from birth to aged 8, was forbidden to do all, stairs, dance, PE in school, my parents had me in a crystal box till aged 12, in which I decided to challenge the doctors (which , by the way, told me I couldn't have children among the prohibition list)) and I did it ALL. 30 years on stage, plenty of stairs when I was a tour guide in Rio (no elevator in my time, you had to rush 200 steps up to see the statue) and my beautiful child to make me go to them na na na na na (it has a little music to it LOL)
But when I was 16, my knees were hurting, went to the family doctors, who said,
_oh, don't worry, this is comes from the many surgeries, BUT...there is an operation in experimental phase (I think it was 1974 then) which I am sure it will be routine when you need it!)
Take some aspirin.
So I did. A few years later, in my early 20s , was prescribed Diclofenac Sodium, which I would take sporadicly. Now making the story assorter (as there is a lot more)
The operation was indeed, routine then -2003-only the did horrific errors in that first operation, then operated 3 or 4 times trying to fix the initial error but failed miserably, so when they wanted to operate AGAIN I said no. The last operation was in December 2005.
When I started to listen to my friends who had suggested I took them to court, I had a big surprise.... there is a law here in the UK, you have 3 years to sue, from initial date. No lawyer would take against the National Health Service with just 20 days to the deadline (it would take longer than that to get your records, they said) so I was left with nerve damage, 24/7 excruciating pain, was never able to go back to work, have been discriminated in a country so very different to my own, with a child that turned 7 two days after I left hospital the first time .....
BUT I made it.
I gave my then 7 years old child an education, a beautiful, intense life and she is an amazing your lady now (26) plus, one of the most amazing things is the time my mum spent here with Sarita, a chance to be a proper grandma (as she lives almost 7000 miles away) taking her to school, to her dance and theatre after school, being there at every performance Sarita made... that is PRICELESS, and a HUGE part of why Sarita loves family so much. If that wasn't enough.... it gave me the certainty of that "every cloud has a silver lining"...well, some of ours are gold, platinum, diamonds!!!!
so, yeah, there is no fixing my body, unfortunately, but, to honour Cheryl's super awesome templates....I think Happy and I am happy -at least most of the time!!!!
I have my family, the blood and chosen ones, the life time friends, so many of you here at The Pad, so so much to thank for my life being a blessed one in scrapbooking LITERALLY saved my life, and many of you are still shining a light on the dark times....
