Journaling is 316 words in the large journaling blocks. (I didn't count the photo captions that aren't directly related to the prompt.)
My memory isn’t the greatest, but I’ve always compensated well by being organized and writing everything down. When Jason was a baby, I took so many photos. Many of them were of milestones or had stories behind them. The first time he smiled, the first time he rolled, how terrible a sleeper he was unless I was holding him. I knew myself well enough to realize that I would forget what was really happening in each photo unless it was written down with the photo. In the early days I added text to some photos before I printed them. That worked well enough for “First laugh” but not for the stories. And as he got to be a few months older, I had more and more stories that couldn’t just be preserved in a short phrase. That’s why, when he was 5 months old, I went searching for a solution to my memory keeping problem and stumbled across scrapbooking.
Now here were are, almost 17 years later. I’m still a scrapbooker, still a memory keeper. I think of our scrapbooks as my external brain. Want to remember what funny things Lauren said at 5? Check the scrapbooks. Can’t remember when our family tradition of vacationing in the Poconos started? Check the scrapbooks. Want to know how Ben’s first day of middle school went? You guessed it—it’s in the scrapbooks. We parents have so many moments with our kids that we’re sure we’ll never forget. A particular stuffed animal was our child’s constant companion for 3 years—of course we’ll never forget. And that hobby was so much a part of them at that age—of course we’ll remember it. And then time passes and new memories are made, and we forget the things we swore we never would. I love knowing that because I scrap, I really will remember all of those “unforgettable” moments forever!
I loved reading your journaling, and yes - remembering all these unforgettable moments forever through our scrapbooks is definitely a plus!! Great page!
