Looking-Back

Description
JOURNALING: On April 17, 1964, Geraldine “Jerrie” Mock became the first woman to fly solo around the world. The central Ohio native covered nearly 22,800 miles and made 21 stops along the way in her single-engine Cessna. She flew out of Lane Aviation where my mother worked at the time, so the event was very exciting. This statue by sculptor Renate Burgyan Fackler was unveiled at Columbus International Airport in 2014 on the 50th anniversary of her record-setting trip. She is holding a globe with her route marked on it.
