@Sokee Thank you so much Barbara!!! It is done with a reverse mask (hold down Alt + Mask icon on the photo layer in the layer pallet) and use a soft brush.... then use white color to paint on the mask with the brush in the photo over the background

To me, this is art journaling bliss...with the paper fragments and pen/paint artiness...and such a lovely photo.
