JOURNALING: Whenever I visit family in Columbus Ohio, my sister and I usually plan several days of sightseeing. My fall trip in 2016 was no exception. October 30 was a Sunday, a perfect day to visit downtown because there would be little traffic.
24 am - we drove by CMOA (Columbus Museum of Art.) Two striking statues graced the front lawn. The structure in the back of the photo is “Karnak” by Paul Feeley. The stainless steel structure in the foreground is “V-X” by Kenneth Snelson.
38 am - my sister worked at the newspaper, The Columbus Dispatch, for many years, so we HAD to get a picture of her travel troll, Winnie, admiring the building’s sign.
30 pm – The Deardurff House was built in early 1807 and is the oldest known building in the county standing on its original foundation. When we first saw this house it was covered by a black tarp and was in very poor condition. We both had tears in our eyes to see the restoration process after so many years. History is important to Ohioans.
50 pm – After a short nap at home, my sister, 101 year old mother and I went to a late lunch/early dinner at City BBQ. YUM!
00 pm – When we got home we enjoyed the goodies we had picked up from Pistacia Vera at the end of our downtown sightseeing - macaroons, shortbread and pastries YUM! YUM! (Yes, I always eat well when visiting my family!)
