JOURNALING: This is a four column marble structure with the Columbus Fire Department emblem at the top of each side holding an eternal flame. It was dedicated in April 1958. At a ceremony each year, the bell hanging inside the monument is rung once for each firefighter who has died during that year. A plaque at the base reads “In Memorium. Members of the Columbus Fire Department who have answered their last alarm.” The crosses and plaques were cast from melted firehouse bells. In 1988 the Firefighters Memorial was rededicated when a black granite monument was added to the site, engraved with the names of all Columbus firefighters who have died in the line of duty. 4/16/17
