My journaling: I don't truly know what my earliest Christmas memory is, but I do know that our celebration with family started on Christmas Eve. My parents, my brothers, and I got dressed up and drove half an hour from our house into the city of Albany, NY to my grandparents' house. After greeting and visiting with family gathered there, we moved on to my Aunt Fran & Uncle Ralph's flat. We exchanged gifts and had dinner there visiting with others who dropped in for the evening. At 11:30 we left to go to church for Midnight Mass. By the time mass was done, it was at least 1:00 a.m. when my parents herded us into the car for the drive home. I remember sitting in the back of the station wagon looking up into the sky watching for Santa & his sleigh. When we got home, it was quick into bed or Santa might not come if we were still up! The next morning, there were our presents under the tree! We opened our gifts and ate a quick breakfast so we could go back to playing with our presents. Later in the day, my mom would prepare our Christmas dinner and we would usually have some relatives over to share the meal with us.
