JOURNALING:
Holocaust survivor and noted sculptor Alfred Tibor passed away 3/18/17 at the age of 97. His statue, Celebration of Life, is a favorite of mine. It commemorates the 1803 birth of Arthur Boke, Jr., the first African American born in Franklinton OH, which later would become Columbus. Abandoned by his mother, he was taken in by Sarah Sullivant, wife of Lucas, founder of the town, and raised along with her own children. Pictured with part of the Columbus skyline as a backdrop, this work of art celebrates Sarah's expression of love, "...a symbol of how all humankind can make this a better world, one child at a time."
