You had been doing flips and cartwheels around the yard for quite some time now, so when you wanted to join gymnastics who was I to say no. Since you had never taken a course before I signed you up for a beginner’s course at our local university. When we arrived on day one they tested each person. You did excellent and better then all the others in your group in floor exercises and you were not scared of the balance beam at all like some of the other kids. When it came to testing you on bars, something I thought you would be scared of.. You jumped right in like a pro. You chalked up your hands like you had seen on TV and grabbed right on twirling away on the bars. I was shocked and to tell you the truth so were the coaches. They kept asking me, “are you sure she never took lessons before?” To make a long story short, you passed into pre-team! I was blown away and you were more then excited. Months of practices twice a week and you gained new skills I never thought possible. No fear what so ever. I swear! You tried everything the coaches asked of you, things I would be scared shit-less to try like front hand springs and back flips. For months you had been trying to do a cartwheel on the balance beam (the low one) with no luck. Finally you gave up. Then weeks later I came to watch you practice and you were practicing jumps on the big beam. You were grinning ear to ear with pride as your coach watched you, giving you praise. Than you surprised us all by doing a cartwheel on the high beam, something no one expected! You landed that cartwheel with ease. Your coach gave you a little lecture on how you should have passed doing it on the low beam before even trying it on the regular balance beam. But you weren’t listening; you were so full of pride! When I asked you if you were scared, your reply was “no mom, worse I can do is break something..wait a few months and get back on”. Where you get your skills and courage from my dear, no one knows. But I am so proud of you. You were born to stand out, Miss Bianca Rose!
