November 8 2022 - Total Lunar Eclipse (Blood Moon)
Photos taken between 9.11pm - 9.43pm from Burnie, Tasmania, Australia.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align so that the Moon passes into Earth’s shadow. In a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon falls within the darkest part of Earth’s shadow, called the umbra. When the Moon is within the umbra, it will turn a reddish hue. Lunar eclipses are sometimes called “Blood Moons” because of this phenomenon. I was so thrilled to have captured these photos.
Wow! These photos are amazing and I loved reading your journaling too. There's supposed to be a blood moon sometime this week again, right? I just remember reading about it and that it wouldn't be visible from where I am in the US. Maybe you'll get to see another one!
Thanks Karen xx Yes there will be one Sep 8 in the very early morning from 3.30am to 4.52am (peaks at 4.11am) so I don't think I will see it. It is still in the last throes of winter for us and its a bit too chilly to get up for it! lol! So I will have to make do with the ones I have lol!
Love the moon phase photos, Ona.. they are amazing and that you took them.. how cool is that. Looks like you used a telescope! I love that you took them... it is so hard to not shake while taking them. I have a flag pole I steady my elbow on, as it is too much for me to get out a tripod LOL.. I am so thrilled for you my friend as they are gorgeous especially the blood moon shot at 9:25.. the red phase was amazing! TFS.. I love the composition too on your page. TFS! Amazing page Ona!
@cfile Well if you look closely will see the edges are a bit blurry from me trying to hold the camera still too!! lol! I use the supporting post on the front deck to keep the camera as steady as I can. I read a tip awhile ago, to get one of those pool noodle things ......... cut a longish piece off and slit it down vertically and then you can push it against a pole vertically or horizontally and rest your camera on it. Will have to try it! Thanks for your lovely comments too sweetie! x
