For the 2013-2014 school year we decided to hold Asia back in Pre-K due to her struggles the year before. During the spring of the past year Asia was diagnosed with ADHD and had a very hard time sitting still and paying attention. Due to this Asia was behind her fellow classmates in a lot of her studies. Being one of the youngest kids in her class, due to her summer birthday, having Asia repeat the pre-k class for another session was not that big of deal.
Our plan succeeded as Asia excelled in her class and gained the knowledge to succeed in kindergarten. She gained so many new writing skills and early math skills. Getting her medication under control for her ADHD surely helped, but being in a familiar class setting did not hurt as well. As her mother, I do not regret my choice to hold her back one bit and I hope one day she will thank me for making the best choice I could at the moment for her.
