@Sokee Alexander McCall Smith is British. He was born in Africa, lived there for almost 40 years before moving to Scotland. This particular series is all based in Africa about one woman who decides to become a detective. Since there is no other lady detective around, she names her company the #1 Ladies Detective Agency
