I started digital scrapbooking in the fall of 2007 when I was pregnant with my oldest child. Starting digital scrapbooking meant finding a username. That was harder than I like to think. I didn’t want to use my first name because back then it was still “dangerous” and I didn’t know what I was having so I couldn’t be ____’s mom or anything like that. I contemplated something about stepmom or something to do with Cainan, but I didn’t want my identity linked to their identity...not my (then) boyfriend, not my stepsons, not my own kids. I am my own person and that is what I wanted to be online. So, I went with ta_merkins. The ta part stands for my first and middle names: Teri Ann and Merkins was the last name I was born with. I put an underscore in it because “it looked cool”. *eye roll* Now that I’m married and I am settled into my life, I wish I had chosen something different that wasn’t tied to my maiden name- but was still about me and not my relationships to others like pandafriend or readnscrap. But since I’ve been digi scrapping for almost 11 years and have been all over the community, everyone knows me as ta_merkins and I’m not really wanting to “re-brand” myself.
