journaling:
La Geria is the main wine region in Lanzarote, in the middle of a sea of lava.
Despite a lack of groundwater and rain, the region's resourceful inhabitants have successfully grown wine. They only use the material that is available: lava.
The low grape bushes stand individually in a pit filled with lava stones. These stones retain the (spray) water for a long time. The pit is bordered on one side by chunks of lava stacked in a semicircle. This offers good protection against the prevailing trade winds. This has given La Geria a unique and celebrated landscape architecture that has made it a protected area.
This is so interesting!! I had no idea that anything could be grown in lava stones. Love the design with the 2/3 circle for the photo and 1/3 for the journaling. Really distinctive. Wonderful page!
