Nisyros is a small volcanic island in the Aegean Sea, 12 kilometers from Kos.
In ancient times it was known as Porphyris.
According to Greek Mythology, the island was created by Poseidon cutting off part of Kos with his trident and throwing it on the giant Polyvotis to prevent him from escaping.
Before leaving for the crater, we walk around the harbor town of Mandraki - a maze of small streets lined with white houses...
