MOC 2024 - Day 14 - Friendships
Journaling - My oldest and best friend is Missy. We've been friends since we met at the Jersey shore in the late 80s. She lived in NJ and I lived in PA so we wrote letters to each other for years and occasionally were allowed to call each other (back when long distance calls were pricey). Her parents even invited me to spend the week with them back at the shore when we were in high school.

Every time I go back home to PA, we try to meet up, which usually meant her driving out from Jersey since I was only home for a few days - although I did go and stay with her in the run-up to her bridal shower.

She finally came out to CA to see us shortly after we bought our house in 2014 (like we had just moved in 10 days prior!). She had to sleep on a blow up mattress in among the extra boxes in the guest room but she didn't care. We weren't at the house much since she had never been to CA before we took her to the Winchester Mystery House, Alcatraz, and around San Francisco. She came out again after Benjamin was born for a long weekend just to meet him.

Most days now, we just text. Usually silly in-jokes that are hard to explain but just three words will send us laughing with the memories. So funny.

I'm hoping she'll be able to come out again to visit us soon. Now, that Mom sold the house I don't have a “home base” so not sure when I'll be going back to PA. No matter whether we see each other a lot or not... I know she's my best friend and who knows where I'd be without her friendship and support. Jan. 2024
