2024-MOC-12-Day-16

Description
Julia , my oldest was born in 1963 so I was very much a stay at home Mom in those days.... I started watching The Days of Our Lives, when it premiered on TV Nov. 18, 1965. Days of Our Lives remained the only soap opera airing on NBC. On August 3, 2022, NBCUniversal announced that it would relocate the series exclusively to its Peacock streaming service beginning September 12 after 57 years on the network . I and much of my family watched it until we moved to Valdez AK in 1975 and it was not available in that tiny remote town. After returning to Civilization a few years later, I tuned in off and on, for many more years.

Storylines in the show follow the lives of middle- and upper-class professionals in Salem, a middle-America town, with the usual threads of love, marriage, divorce, and family life, plus the medical story lines and character studies of individuals with psychological problems.

By the 1970s, critics deemed Days of Our Lives to be the most daring daytime drama, leading the way in using themes other shows of the period would not dare touch, such as artificial insemination and interracial romance. The January 12, 1976, cover of Time magazine featured Days of Our Lives' Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes, the only daytime actors ever to appear on its cover. The Hayeses themselves were a couple whose on-screen and real-life romance (they met on the series in 1970 and married in 1974) was widely covered by both the soap opera magazines and the mainstream press.

On Jan. 13, 2024 it was announced that Bill had died. He was 98 years old, and he and his wife Susan had been married in real life as well as on the show playing their alter egos Doug and Julie, for 50 years...

Doug and Julie, were favorites of mine , and apparently were a part of the Christmas 2023 season on Peacock. I never watched the show on Peacock.

Suffice to say, they were like members of my family.

My mom and I shared a love of DOOL for many years (until her death in 1996). Doug and Julie were a big part of why we loved the show. Of course, there were many other characters we loved as well. I was actually shocked to see he had died... I didn't realize he was still alive!

Great layout!

What a great page! I watched Days of Our Lives before my girls were born! Love how you made a connection to your life and the show at the different times!
