Journaling reads:
My childhood books, the books given to me by Aunt Cathy. I am not sure where she picked them up. Most of them were used, and she would gift them to me for no particular occasion. For my birthday or Christmas, she would be sure to buy me a new book or two. And I loved them all. I took inventory this week and found 28 hard-covered books and one paperback that I still own. I am so glad that I never had the heart to give them away.
They include Trixie Belden, The Lennon Sisters, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, The Bobbsey Twins, Cherry Ames. I’ve got a 1904 version of The Land of Oz, Illustrated Junior Library Classics including Alice in Wonderland, Aesops Fables, and Heidi, possibly my all-time favorite book. Then more classics: Black Beauty, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. Susannah of the Mounties (with Shirley Temple on the cover), Ginger in Alaska. And so many more books for a young girl: My Friend Monica, My Friend Sandy, Rosemary, Next Door Neighbors.
Other titles for my pre-teen years included I Wonder Why, The Wonderful Year, The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew. One Western: Heart of the Sunset along with another mystery for girls: Witches Cove
One of the new books was Kisimusi, about a Zulu girl. I treasured that one, from 1962. I should read it again.
Ooh I love how you’ve arranged the books along the left Marilyn! So fun! I’m glad you kept the ones you love. I need to go through my mom’s house and see if she kept my favorites.
What an awesome layout, I am extremely glad that I clicked through and could read all of your journaling. I had totally forgotten about Cherry Ames and I've never written about Heidi. Thanks for sharing. We read many of the same books.
