April 15, 2023
My spot, my little corner of the living room. My recliner that has carved wooden feet, so it does not look like a recliner. I like that. But we have owned it for a long time, since January 2002. It has more than serviced us well. Over the years, we noticed bits of fraying, some fabric wearing thin. We had meant to go shopping to replace a couple of pieces in the living room, my recliner being one of them. But then you got sick. And we had no time. We agreed that once you felt better, we would go furniture shopping. But that didn’t happen. The day before you went back to the hospital for that final time, I purchased a used power-lift recliner to help your weak body get out of the chair. It was comfy, it was blue, it wasn’t my style. You sat in it for a little over 24 hours, and then you were rushed to the emergency room via ambulance. You never came home. You got sicker, and you died.

I felt terrible asking my brother-in-law and his friend to swap out the blue recliner and haul my old floral La-Z-Boy back into the living room from its temporary storage in the garage. He understood, he got it, he had lost his brother, and saw him in that blue power lift. So they agreed and carried my worn recliner back to its spot of honor, with the sunlight shining on it once again. Within a few days, we found a buyer for the blue recliner. I decided to have my old friend reupholstered. It was picked up this morning. I’ve gone through sample books, checked the upholstery fabric website, and I believe I have it narrowed down to a new pattern. A bright, snazzy look that will still match the rug, and possibly add a bit of color back into my life.
What a lovely page and sentiment. I like the print and the colors on the chair now and hope you will be happy with the new upholstery. Thinking of you daily as you walk this dark tunnel of grief.

Marilyn this is beautiful. Your journaling is amazing and so real. You know I'm thinking of you (((hugs))) So glad you got rid of the blue chair that didn't hold any good memories of your husband and wasn't your style anyway. AND I love that you are keeping your favorite chair - I'm sure it will be better than any you could find on the market and now will be your chosen fabric.
