Since I finally completed a “perfect” Project 365 at the end of 2016, my interest in photography has dwindled drastically. Since then, I have picked up my Canon Rebel T1i less often every year. But I miss it sometimes. Or I miss something about those years from when I learned to shoot manually in 2012, studying with CreativeLIVE and ClickinMoms, and I’ve
determined that this year, 2021, I’m going to figure out what kind of photographer I am. I’m participating in a group studying David DuChemin’s The Visual Toolbox and the Clickinmoms Project 52.
I have enjoyed taking pictures longer than I can remember, so I can only guess what attracted me to it. Was I just imitating something my Mom did? I suspect the moments captured in my Mom’s albums would
amaze me. I don’t think I had a lot of interest in the inner workings of the camera because I was content with a point and shoot camera until I was nearly 40 years old. I have long been
sentimental, saving artifacts of my life in boxes and scrapbooks, though nowadays I’m becoming somewhat of a minimalist and I prefer digital photos rather than tangible memories. I don’t consider myself
artistic. But I
love life, I have a bad memory, and I’m so
grateful photos can help me
remember.
Here are photos from my efforts this week for Project 52. I frowned upon reading the prompt. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It’s helping me figure out what kind of photographer I am. I think I’m more of a
storyteller than an artist. That’s why I didn’t become interested in this week’s challenge until I saw the idea of shooting through sheet music; I love to record Rhiannon’s playing. It’s cool to play around with techniques like shooting through objects and I was truly impressed by some images from others doing this. But it doesn’t interest me enough to put in as much effort as I did when I was photographing my growing children and all their many activities. But I’m being persistent in this Project 52 because I think I do want to be a photographer of some kind, always, and experimenting with new things is the way to find new interests.
