2021-Moc-day-2-Why-do-I-scrap

Description
There are so many people in my life who ask that question! They cannot grasp the desire to create works of beauty, and make remembering life more enjoyable. I have one friend in particular who is an avid Musician ... as a child he practiced for hours on end and is totally consumed by his music, yet finds time for Photography, and in particular recording history... But it ends there... He just looks blankly at what I do and says, Why??? He is only one of many....

I have always loved art and creating just about anything... After my husband died, I decided I Had a to make albums for my 3 kids of their lives... Little did I know, how addicted I would become... Today, I cannot imagine not working on a page for part of every day... I often scrap late at night, when there is nothing else I “should” be doing... and can totally relax and lose track of time while creating something I love... and I “have to LOVE it” or it is NOT done! So I scrap to preserve the memories I have made with my family... and to create art...

On a side note my daughter has been musing for awhile about the fact that according to her, she has no memories of her childhood... I found this troubling because we had a lovely life when she was child... her younger brother says he remembers all the little trips we took over the years...

So they all got copies of 1971-2 in their lives last week for Christmas... all exactly the same and filled with as much detail as I could recall, which was a lot. When she looked at hers, her first comment abou
ong time... I had forgotten that detail... and then the page about her and friends obviously going off to camp somewhere?... She informed me that was camp fire Girls and the camp was Swelocken!!!! I hope she is now beginning to realize that she does have memories triggered, by the photos saved on pages that have now been converted to beautiful albums...

This is the 3rd album of their life.. The first done 3 years ago was quite simple and while showing this years album to a friend yesterday and then going back to Vol 1 to show him where I started, he commented that the style of the pages was so very different.. Then I showed him the in between one and it was really artsy... So simple has gone out the window replaced with fun artsy .... it was fun to see the real reactions of someone who had not been exposed before...

Some people won't get it, it's ok. This love we do it for us and for those that care. It is weird when another artist (even a different field) doesn't get it because sometime they can make us doubt, but don't doubt my friend you are doing what you love and that love can be seen in your family's memories coming back to them.

That is so neat. Great storytelling, and what a treasure those books you made for Christmas gifts. Love the layouts down the side of the page. Thanks for playing along with my challenge!

@HeatherB The covers are really quite simple... artsy paper, a photo representing the years covered, appropriate word art and an element or 2... by the time I get to album covers, I am totally burned out... Do you print your albums? I have discovered Costco... 39.95 for 30 lay flat pages. The colors and quality will knock your socks off... check out their samples next time you are there... if you decide to give Costco a try contact me and I'll give you a few helpful hints... their software is easy, but very different from other sites... I am happy to share my email address with you.

@easyeyes4you Yes, I do print. I usually print at Shutterfly when they have the unlimited pages deal combined with 50% off. With the exchange rate (I'm in Canada), it can't be beat. I didn't realize Costco did photo books. I will have to look into this. Thanks!!

@HeatherB I used Shutterfly also... pretty good service... Just had a huge argument with them about a coupon code that went on for a week... Finally resolved to my satisfaction. They do pretty much wan to keep you happy. I think you will be like me and come to love Costco... a book with a hundred pages is less than an inch thick! and they are lay flat! let me know when you check them out , what you think... Liz
