It was a spur of the moment trip to Waukegan to visit friends. Driving in on Friday, October 19th, driving back home the next day, spending Friday night at the Illinois Beach Resort. Saturday began innocently enough, a beautiful blue sky, sunny and warm, looking out our balcony, seeing the waves of Lake Michigan. But then in a matter of an hour or two, the weather turned frigid, the winds picked up, leaves and sand blowing everywhere, making it almost impossible to walk. A mix of rain and snow pelted at us. My first thought was that this turn of events was way too soon, I was not ready for winter. I was so grateful that I dressed in layers and brought my hooded jacket. But then I began to enjoy this change in the weather, seeing the whitecaps, in awe of the treacherous looking clouds, hearing the waves crashing onto the shore, the rain/snow mix stinging my skin. It was invigorating. I walked down to the shore, I hoped to capture some of the wild that only Mother Nature can produce. A feeling of being alive, so happy to experience this early blast of Arctic air.
What a great picture, Marilyn! You never know up there - the weather can turn so fast! I remember one 4th of July, we went to Mackinaw Island and when we left Luddington, it was very hot and humid and when we got to Mackinaw, it was 30 degrees and snowing! You documented this drastic change so well! I can almost feel that wind! I'm so glad that you rolled with it and ended up enjoying the whole experience. Always dress in layers, I guess. We didn't on the day I was talking about and we all had to buy sweatshirts and plastic rain ponchos.
Sensational, ARTISTIC page. WOW. Knocks my socks off. Love the blending, the big photo, the word art choices, the on-its-side title, and the wonderful story.
