In July 1979, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip & Prince Andrew visited Lilongwe Malawi. There was pomp, President Hastings Kamuzu Banda’s red Rolls Royce & the singing Congress Party women. I had arrived in Malawi with our 3 children mid July 1979 & there was a big event shortly afterwards. We went with the xxxxxx to see the Queen. However, the sight of the chanting & swaying women was only outshone by Prince Andrew! I was quite impressed by it all but my 'drivers' were just typical working class Brits who couldn’t give a fig. True class differences arose this day and lasted for the remainder of our life in Malawi.
