1977 was a year just like other years. Many things happened that changed people and the world around them. It was the year this creative, sensitive, animal loving poet made her appearance on this Earth. While I was taking many of my firsts the world also had some life changing events. The Apple II computer debuted in stores as did the Atari 2600. Some of the most classic movies were released, like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Star Wars. My hometown of Kalamazoo also experienced events that went down in history. The O’Jays held a concert at Wings Stadium which was the first all-black concert held in the stadium. The county also witnessed a F4 “supercell” tornado that injured many, killed 1 and destroyed everything in its path. 1977 was also the year Elvis passed away. 4 months prior his concert tour placed him in my hometown for one of his rarest albums, “Shakin’ Up the Great Lakes” which was partly recorded at one of his last concerts at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo. 1977 was both a year just like other years and a year that was one of a kind.
