I had never had sauerkraut with turkey until I had it at my MIL’s home. Her people were Virginians but my FIL was from NY & his sister had married a man with a German background. I had been raised with lots of sauerkraut made by my Lithuanian Nana. So this Christmas or Thanksgiving tradition became mine to carry. I don’t care much for turkey but I do like the sauerkraut! This tradition is also part of the Baltimore tradition from the many Germans who came to the US in the 1800s. God bless refugees for our many food traditions! I (heart) this one for sure.

Thanks for looking!

oh my DH would love this tradition (he makes his own sauerkraut but i prefer my cabbage, um, less soggy and sour?!) - the paper layering and combination of colours and that pattern give this an elegant, fine dining feel for sure!
