The Mixed Media Signature Kits: Unexpected by Rachel Jefferies
Grandmother, Honora Magner is a memory-keeping conundrum. According to public records, she has three different mothers: Margaret Healy, Nora Castallo, and Katherine Fitzpatrick and three different fathers: James Magner, Martin Magner, and Edward Wagner. So, which ones do we go with? The data suggests that her biological parents are Martin Magner and Nora Costello (marriage license). Martin’s mother is either Catherine Fitzpatrick or Margaret Healy. Nora was probably raised by Martin’s parents, her grandparents, James Magner and Margaret Healy (newspaper announcement).
Her Nebraska death certificate is another matter. Besides different parents, it gives a different birth date. The information on the document was submitted by Honora’s daughter Winifred, Ed’s sister, and contributes another layer to the puzzle.
To add to the confusion, James Magner and Margaret had a daughter, Honoria, who was born in 1865. This would be Martin’s sister. The two are frequently mixed up in Ancestry.com records.
Oh my gosh! What a puzzle to unravel! My sister is big into Ancestry.com and she tells me about things like this in our family tree too. She gets especially frustrated by families who lose a child and then name another child the same thing. Make it really confusing! I love how you've documented this conundrum though!
