December 2024 - Journaling Challenge - Favorite Memory

Journaling - Mom came out to spend several weeks with us after driving across the country stopping at various tourist traps along the way. When Maddie heard that her Mom Mom wasn't going back to PA for Christmas, she told Melissa that she (Maddie) was going to CA for Christmas because she had never spent a Christmas without her Mom Mom and she wasn't going to start celebrating without her now. Melissa wanted to know what about her. Maddie replied that she could come to if she wanted, but she was going to see her Mom Mom because it had already been months!
So, that's how we hosted Christmas to Melissa, Maddie and Mom in 2022. We had Todd's dad but he had died in February so it was a nice distracting to have a different Christmas the first year without either of Todd's parents. Melissa and Maddie arrived in the early hours of Christmas Eve.
Melissa took over the kitchen and did all the cooking Christmas Day because she loves it and I hate it. It made me laugh because Mom always complained about Melissa needing to use every pan in the kitchen when she would cook at Mom's and sure enough... Melissa used every pan and baking dish we had and used the crockpot as well.
We had two rounds of present opening because Melissa and Maddie aren't early birds. Benjamin was not going to wait until after lunch to open his haul so we did a morning present sessions with Mom Mom and another round after we had cleaned up from lunch (that I only had to contribute where such and such thing was located! Awesome!)
The rest of the week they were here we did various tourist things like Glowfari at the Oakland Zoo, the Winchester Mystery House and the Exploratorium. So fun and such great Christmas memories with my family. 12/2022
