Hey all, Polly Jewelle here! I am back to bring you another TLP member spotlight! This month I asked the other Polly’s here at the Pad to help pick a member to spotlight. We chose Carol aka Iowan to spotlight. Iowan has been around the scrapping community for quite some time. We are so excited to have her here at the Pad keeping us company. Iowan has a gorgeous gallery full of inspiring pieces. Let’s sit back and take some time to get to know more about Carol!
Jewelle: What is your IRL name and your user name?
Carol: My name is Carol Johnston and I am Iowan in most of the scrapbooking forums.
Jewelle: Where do you call home?
Carol: Although my username is Iowan, I now live in Seattle, Washington. I lived in Iowa 35+ years so it still seems like home.
Jewelle: Are you a digital or hybrid scrapbooker? Or both?
Carol: I make hybrid cards but am solely digital for all my layouts.
J: How long have you been scrapping?
C: It seems like I have been scrapping forever but I started digital scrapbooking in 2006– the year I retired from teaching.
J: What is the starting point for your pages – photos, the story, products?
C: Since I’m on a few creative teams, my scrapping seems to be product driven, but I keep a “photos to be scrapped” folder on my desktop so I usually have a favorite photo handy.
J: How would you describe your style?
C: I’m mainly a clusterer (is that a word?) but dabble in everything.
J: Any must-have items or techniques on all of your pages?
C: I love foliage: leaves, flowers, stems, etc.
J: Do you have a favorite tip or trick you can share with us?
C: Besides locking your bottom layer, I fool around with the opacity of ellies, papers, paints, and template layers to get different looks. Also, I don’t restore most of my old photos as the damage, crinkles, cracks, water spots, etc. are just part of the history of the photo.
J: Do you listen to music while you scrap? What kind?
C: Nope, I’m a little bit deaf!!! I would love to listen to music but I have a profound hearing loss. Once I turn off my hearing aids, nobody bothers me.
J: What’s your favorite snack (if any) while you scrap?
C: I don’t have snacks but I ALWAYS have a beverage handy-coffee, diet coke, or wine.
J: What time of day do you feel most creative?
C: Since I’m retired, I have no set time that tends to bring out the creative juices. My creativity is usually kit inspired.
J: Any pictures of your workplace you would like to share?
J: Share with us your three favorite layouts.
C: This is a favorite because of the way it captures our holiday tradition where we head downtown to visit Santa and ride on the merry-go-round.
C: This photo was a fluke but it just “made” the page. My granddaughter’s face was in a shadow and I asked her to turn to the window a bit and we got such a lovely reflection of her sweet face.
C: As part of the MOC we did a sticker technique which made a cool 70-year-old photo so unique.
Thank you Carol for letting us learn more about you!
