As I was thinking about what kind of photography related trick I wanted to show to you today, I thought about the countless hours I put in last year photographing food. See, I had this great idea of making a recipe book for my family for Christmas, so starting in April…I began my quest for all things food. Every single dish I made, I took a picture of it. I compiled all of my recipes, added my photos in and make a fantastic recipe book!!
At first I was really nervous about photographing food…I’d never done it before. I am one of those people that only likes to take pictures if there’s people in them. So where was I to start? The things that apply to photographing people apply to photographing food: light, color, angle, backdrop etc.
So as I began I started using a variety of backdrops such as fabric, the grill, clea dishes, paper towels etc. I also shot the food from many different angles…and most of the time, the angle I didn’t mean to shoot was my favorite. I always made sure I had enough lighting. And lastly, I made sure to display the food in the most tasty way…and by that I mean by just being creative by how to show it off!
