*insert evil laugh here*
So, my kids are starting school today. Yep, today I am the mother of a High School Freshman! EEK, how did that happen? Also, the mom of a 7th grader, 3rd grader and Kindergartener. Whew, I’m tired and I don’t even have to carry a backpack. Anyway, now that they are getting into a school routine, I figured a little extra homework from Mom wouldn’t kill anyone, right? So this post is all about letting your children (or grandchildren, or nephews/nieces, or friends’ kids) do the work for you. Admittedly, I may have difficulty getting my older children to cooperate with this endeavor completely, but my little ones will be more than willing to play along. So grab a kid and ask them a few questions. Then voila! You have journaling material for a scrapbook page that provides great content for the future viewers of it and an excuse to buy more scrap stuff. Win, Win.
You could certainly go a million directions with prompts for children, but I decided to focus on the theme of Back to School. Appropriate, no?
And to get you inspired, here’s a picture of my little angels this morning, heading to school.

Awww… I know, I know. They are adorable. But we much get back to the point of the post.
Back to the prompts. Try these on for size. Obviously, they are for different aged kids. Just roll with it.
1. There are always class rules. If you were in charge of making them, what are some that would be on your list?
2. If I were the teacher today…
3. What was your favorite part about Summer Vacation? And why?
4. How would you decorate your classroom?
5. If you could pack anything in your lunchbox today, what would you pack?
6. What do you want to learn in school this year?
7. If you could pick a class pet/mascot, what animal would you choose? And why? And what would you name it?
8. What character from history do you want to learn about? Be more like? What would you ask them if you met them?
9. What was school like 100 years ago?
10. What will school be like 100 years from now?
11. If you could, what book/story would you like to jump into and visit?
12. Invent a new game to play with your friends?
13. What would you do if you were locked inside the school for the night with a friend?
14. What place in the world do you want to learn more about? Visit? Why?
15. Pretend you are your school building. Yes, the actual building. What stories could you tell?
And for bonus points, have the student draw a picture that goes with their answer. Then, mom, your homework is to scan (or photograph) it and include it in your layout.
Now, time to scrap! If you search The Lilypad store for School stuff, you will come up with pages and pages of awesome-ness. I’m going to show you just a few products. Head on over and see what else you can find then do a bit of homework yourself and scrap these fun memories.
OK, Memory Keepers, go forth and journal! With a little help from your kids :)
