Hey there, it’s Katrina sharing a hybrid shaker card with you today. This is a fun way to put some “wow” into your cards. It does take a little work and practice, but it’s a good way to put those traditional supplies that you may still have (or want to shop for!) to good use!
I used a collab kit from Little Butterfly Wings/Studio Basic for my card. It’s the Carpe Diem bundle and I am IN LOVE with this collection! I have already done this card, plus another hybrid layout with it!
I am going to take you thru a few of the steps of making this. First you need to cut out a shape on your card front/base. I attached my pattern paper and then cut out the opening with some metal dies and a manual die cutting machine. You could also do this with your electronic machine, but I was just playing around and experimenting!
Next, you need to cover your opening with a piece of acetate, plastic packaging, etc. You have to keep the shaker material contained in there right?! LOL You will also need a shape that is bigger than your opening. I just used a couple of larger dies from the same set to make several of the shapes that you will need to “contain” your shaker items on the backside of the card front.
Glue all your shapes together on top of each other and then make sure your glue is good and dry. I also use some powder in my little brush container to run around the inside edges so that the shaker contents don’t stick to the edges.
Using foam adhesive, build up the card front (back) so that you have the height of the shaker compartment and that will allow you to cover your shaker area. You can see here, I also had my cover ready. I printed it at 6×6, because those hearts were just too cute! I filled in the bottom with just regular cardstock. Most of the time, my paper would have been cut big enough to cover the card front, but I was using some scraps up.
Next, fill your shaker. You can use any mix you want…sequins, glitter, seed beads, etc. This is a good way to use up glitter!!! LOL Just make sure you don’t put in anything that is too “high” to fit inside the shaker compartment. And things will sometimes stick to the edges, but just a flick of your finger or a shake and they usually fall back down.
You can see added gold sequins, white flowers, some yellow seed beads and some glitter. You cannot see the glitter too much in the pictures, but it’s there!
And then I just used some of the elements from the kit and some letter stickers in my stash to finish it off! These cards will cost more to send usually, but not too much more. And they are so fun to get in the mail. I just got one for my birthday. I couldn’t stop shaking it!
Thanks for stopping by today!

Ever since my paper scraping days, I loved the shakers. I tried one once, but it didn’t turn out that well! I need to try again using this post!

I REALLY love this! For scrapping, I am pretty much all digital, but I do love a good papercraft still. This would be fun to make for my mom for mother’s day!
