Hey there!!! It’s Katrina, aka @katrinahunt13 in the forum, sharing my first post for the Lilypad blog today. Quite frankly I am a little nervous as I am the new kid on the blog and also a hybrid girl to boot! Here’s a little about me.
I started scrapping in 2009 and actually started digitally, even though I had no idea what I was doing. Then, I was introduced to paper and I was a goner. I have always been fascinated by digital/hybrid and finally decided to jump in after seeing a post by Scrapping with Liz that was looking for paper scrappers to work with her templates. One thing lead to another (aka wide format printer) and I was hooked! I feel like I have found an online “home” here at the Pad and love to visit several times a day.
I thought I would show just a little on how you can use your digital templates for hybrid layouts. Let’s take a look at my layout. I choose to do a double page layout with the Scrapping With Liz kit Bold Double Templates. This template is part of the SOSN sale this week! Digital templates work great with your electronic die cutting machines. I have a Silhouette Cameo, so that is what I work with, but the templates will work as long as you can trace PNG files!
I start by picking the main PNG’s out that I want to use and load them into my Studio software. Then I trace them and put them all on one tab. It helps me if I make them a similar color as to what they are originally, so I fill them in. I save that .studio file (with the pieces traced) , so that it’s easy and quick to use later. Now, if you don’t have a wide format printer or only scrap 8.5 x 11 hybrid, just size your PNG’s down to fit that size. I have done it and it works beautifully.
And this time, since the pictures are somewhat covered, I opened the PSD file in Photoshop and loaded my pictures so I would have an idea of how they needed to be sized. Once I did that I then printed my pictures out of Lightroom.
Now the fun stuff starts and I used the following items from the BYOC for August 2016-One Little Bird Roam Papers and Elements; Allison Pennington Well Read: Library Pockets and a little from Forever Joy’s Slow and Steady Papers and Pretties. I did a library pocket from Allison, and a few elements from Forever Joy and One Little Bird. I also printed out the entire collection of Roam papers, because I know I will use them for other projects. There are so many great products in the store for doing hybrid, it’s hard to narrow down what I want to use at times!
And here is my library pocket cut and folded. I adhered the tabs to the inside of the pocket, but you could also wrap and adhere them to the back. Oh, and I just used my trimmer to cut the library card! Hee hee, ignore my self healing mat…it is well used!
I cut my PNG’s out and started putting together my layout. I worked from the center out because I find that easier for me with double page layouts. I added bits and pieces from my personal stash of traditional supplies as extra touches to my project.
And the pocket is my favorite part of my entire project (well, except for the photos!). I love how these are so easy to decorate up and make personal to your project.
So, I am excited to see what YOU want to see from my hybrid posts, so I am looking for suggestions. I have a post over in the forum HERE where you can post your wishes, wants and ideas. I won’t lie, hybrid does take some time for projects like this, but I am hoping to show you how to make hybrid projects like this a little less time consuming and a lot more fun! Just don’t eat the glue!!
