Hybrid Creating with Paint Effects

September 9, 2016 by The Lilypad 1 Comment

Hey there TLPers!  It’s Katrina, aka katrinahunt13 in the forum, with another hybrid share for you today.  This time it’s all about paint, mixed media and printing on a regular size printer.  And well, another cute photo of one of the pups that hang out on my scrapbook pages all the time! This is Sheldon, the youngest, and a major couch hog.  It’s ok, I like to cuddle with him.

Hybrid Layout using Paint Masks

I LOVE paint splatters, mist drops, etc. but in my hybrid/traditional scrapbooking I don’t use them much.  Why?  Because I cannot get them to look how I want them to!  AND, chances are I am usually trying to add them after the fact and end up getting stuff all over my pictures on my layout.  Or better yet, a big glop of mist right where I DON’T want it!  But, that world has changed since I found all the fun paint/mixed media effects in the store!  Today I am using the new Time Teller Paints, Papers, Elements from Etc. by Danyale and the Artsy Journal Templates #13 by Scrapping with Liz.

I started by cutting down a 12×12 sheet of ivory colored cardstock to 8.5 x 11 so that it could fit thru my regular printer. I usually use Epson Premium Presentation papers, but the Time Teller collection has a softer off white cast to it, so I wanted to highlight that with a plain ivory cardstock background.  My cardstock is textured which also adds to the paint effects.  I just opened up an 8.5 x 11 layer in Photoshop and proceeded to drag the paint effects I wanted to use onto my canvas and then I just printed it out!  No mess, no drips, no mistakes!

Then I printed out my papers at 8.5 x 11 and then used print and cut on my Silhouette for the elements that I wanted to use from both the kit and the template.  Scrapping with Liz’s Artsy Template was a perfect jump off point for me and led me in the direction the layout went.  I use the PNG files and cut out the strips of paper.  LOVE the notebook paper!

Paint Mask, Template,

I added my print and cut embellishments, along with a few items from my stash, like the twine and my paper paint pen to make the enamel looking dots.

Banners are a favorite of mine, so I knew I had to print and cut one.  I used lots of foam adhesive squares on this layout to give it dimension.

The photo corners work great for a chevron effect, underneath my photo, that led into the other paint area.

So the next time you try hybrid out, try adding some effects to your papers before you print them out.  I know I will be using this technique over and over!  Have a great day and make sure to check out all the NEW goodies that are in the store today!
