We sleep with our ceiling fan on all year round. Hubby complains about it being too cold in the winter but I sleep in flannel jammie pants and a long sleeve t-shirt so I'm comfy. We have also slept with our TV on - very quietly - since our middle daughter was born 22 years ago. It started as a "night light" for those late night feedings but now I can't sleep without it.
I’m so addicted to my white noise machine (set to fan) that I take it with me when we travel, and even leave it running all summer when the ceiling fan is on (which doesn’t make much noise). I have the best sleep when I drift off while watching TV (especially afternoon golf!). But I can also fall asleep in the middle of a group of friends chatting, as long as no one says my name.
I don't know how y'all silent-sleepers do it. First of all, when it's completely silent, I immediately hear every creak & rustle in the house which is obviously wild animals & burglars trying to get in to hurt me. Secondly, when it's completely silent, my brain starts to "make up the difference" and think overtime about everything I need to do the next day, what I did that day, what annoying things my kids did, what annoying thing happened at work, etc. I would lie awake for HOURS if I didn't have white noise. Y'all're modern-day superheroes.
I'm a super duper light sleeper and like absolute silence and darkness. Everything wakes me up, I hate it!
I can literally fall asleep anywhere, anytime. I'm not sure if that just shows how exhausted I always am or what... But- in our room, we have no tv, no fan, no noise at all- I don't even like when DH has the lamp on to read. I usually put a book in front of my clock too- since that actually puts off a lot of light into our room. We have room darkening blinds too! The only sound that I actually like to sleep to is when it's raining- I grew up in rainy western WA so maybe it's soothing? who know!?
I think I prefer silence, but I'm really in the middle on this. I often fall asleep while listening to a podcast or trying to watch a video, and I know I've fallen asleep when it's noisy elsewhere in the house. I'm not distracted by noises or thoughts because usually I'm so tired by the time I get around to going to bed that I fall asleep quickly.
My Nana used to say if you can't sleep, you're guilty of something so I must be Guilt Free cause I sleep with or without white noise. Now however, I do go to sleep win various sleep meditations from Insight Timer. What I don't like at all is the sun coming in or even a full moon. The latter often wakes me during the night! Not right! I just got some new cheap blackout curtains for the summer but hope to get better ones some day. It's just the buying and returning I don't like and the first set of white ones which looked pretty good didn't do squat for light blocking.
See, this is one of the reasons I like it quiet. I want to hear if someone is trying to get in my house. I hate not being able to hear what's going on in the rest of the house
Both my hubby and I HAVE to have a fan on. It drowns out all the little noises, especially on the weekends when I'm in bed long before my kids. When we travel and there isn't a fan, I have a hard time sleeping. I've learned that most hotels with have a fun on setting to the heat so I usually turn that on. When my boys were little they both also loved white noise. Someone gave me a sound machine as a baby shower gift and they both loved the white noise setting and would fall right to sleep. Now they both love to have a fan on all night too.
I probably should quit using my fan at night because I now have two teenagers in the house and I probably "should" be listening to see what shenanigans they are up to.
Overhead fan for as long as I can remember! One of my favorite things to fall asleep to is the frog coming awake in the spring, down the hill from our house is a pond. Sigh its the best!
My oldest went through a sneaking out of the house phase when he was about 16, and I think that's when I really started to need to listen to what was going on in the house. I had bells and baby monitors on the doors . My youngest sneaks out of his room all the time in the middle of the night for snacks.
I've had a hard time falling asleep since I was tiny, except for the 5 years I lived in England. The time zone was perfect and I slept well for the only time in my life. I'm a super light sleeper on top of it. Any noise that doesn't belong will instantly wake me even if there is noise in the room. It's a bummer if it's in the first 1 to 1 1/2 hours of sleep because I won't be able to go back to sleep. John has a fan on all the time, and my bi-pap machine makes its own little noise. I've gotten used to it but I prefer total dark and silence or rain, actually moving water of any kind. I sleep like a baby during thunder storms, they don't usually wake me unless the thunder is window rattling and right overhead - at least now that I don't have 2 little boy bodies come slamming into my bed! Go figure, eh?
no no, sleep thru it, let them tell you about it later in life...knowing all is not always the best! bhahhahahhah
