I want to take up a new hobby!! which is easier to learn? CROCHET OR KNITTING? HELP!!!

Knitting, definitely. I can do both. It took me a while to learn crocheting b/c there's so many different stitches. With Knitting, there's only knit and pearl. Easy peasy. :) Good luck! You will definitely want to learn both, though! I also recommend learning knitting using the continental method rather than the english method. That way when you learn to crochet, it'll be easier!

see and my brain fights knitting...cause I want to start a project and finish it quick, so I do large hook crochet...three strands of yarn and big fluffy blankets! chunky Crochet!

It's also gonna depend on the person and which one they learned first. For me I knew how to knit as a kid and learned how to crochet a few years ago. Plus, I learned the english method (it is the easier way) so learning to crochet was difficult for me. I couldn't grasp how to do it until I took a class and watched multiple YouTube videos.

Oh, I will say- if you learn how to knit, download the app called KnittingHelp. She's WONDERFUL and shows you how to do it all! Great resource to have with you, especially since you can have it on your phone!

I can crochet the basic straight line… lol!!! thanks Brandi.. will checkout the app!!

i like the idea of crocheting but have a really hard time counting stitches. i love knitting and need to get out my projects for evenings again! I don't knit in the summer, but fall is coming quickly. :)

I think I found knitting easier to start with and then later moved on to crocheting. I haven't done either in years but still have a couple of bins of yarn in the closet. One of these days I will knit some more scarves. I used my Michael's or JoAnn's coupons to get a discount on yarn.

I do both and I prefer crochet because there is one hook rather than two needles. I crochet in the car on trips. I just recently tried arm knitting and hand crochet with no tools. The projects went quick and they were fun. They might be a fun way to learn.

i crocheted first and therefore found it easier than knitting UNTIL i learned continental 15 years ago- i love love love both! I knit more than crochet mostly because i just love the projects of knitting and garments and techniques like cables....i love crocheting snowflakes :D

Ditto what Val said. I learned crochet first and was only okay at it, I have tension issues. I didn't understand knitting at all until I looked at the videos that Laura shared and saw Continental Style and then I loved knitting and prefer it over crochet because... Cables! But I'm not as prolific with the knitting as Val, and I didn't knit at all this summer. I'm going to pick it back up this fall/winter, though. It just didn't appeal to me on hot summer days.

I crocheted as a child, but I am just learning how to knit. My mom is teaching me. It looks like I'm knitting English style, but after viewing Laura's videos, I want to try continental now!

I would have thought that basic crochet was easier to learn, but a problem is that now most patterns are a symbol chart instead of a written pattern, and that can drive even a saint nuts, So go on U-tube to learn the names and how to do the basics,.
If you choose knitting definitely continental ... much easier to purl and easier to have a even tension too. Have fun, you will love it once you get going.

i tried to teach myself crochet last summer bc for some reason i had it in my head that knitting was harder. i watched some youtube videos and picked up a video/booklet instruction set at our local library. i could do the basic stitches OK ... in a line, but had a hard time moving on from there. so i gave up.

i have always been in love with knitting for the look and feel of the final outcome but believed it was difficult. will have to check out those videos laura recommends. i am intrigued and slightly inspired to try this all again. great thread lili ...

so which way are you leaning? crochet or knitting .... ????
