Tonight I'm attending a National Weather Service Weather Spotter Training class! I'll learn the structure and movement of severe storms and how to identify important storm features. I will be a certified Weather Spotter for the National Weather Service.

Any other "weather watchers" here? I love to watch it storm and one day would be thrilled to go on a storm chase!

THAT sounds so exciting!! I love watching the clouds and love stormy weather. Love the anticipation of it all most I think. Because after it actually gets here it's soon over. And then I have to wait for the next storm. Sigh..... I think people think I'm a little crazy because I love the storms so much. Even our big dust storms called Haboobs are exciting to me. I love watching them build in the distance and roll in on us. Same with the monsoon cloud buildups to the east of our Valley here. Love it, love it!! :) I don't know that going on a storm chase would be what I would want to do. I'm happy just being at home where I feel safe and sound and can be inside when the storm hits. :)

I think AZ natural disasters is about all my heart could take LOL! I've never lived anywhere else, so the though of tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards etc really scare me!

That sounds fun and exciting too! The husband of a friend of mine loves studying the weather: I should find out if a class is offered nearby cuz that'd be a great gift for her to give him!

Awesome. I don't think we have anything similar here.
I clearly need some pointers, i watered the newly planted agapanthus yesterday only to wake up and see it rained!

Wow! That sounds like fun!
We get strong winds and lots of rain here, but not much more than that. I do love watching a good storm roll in!

Oh how fun!! I would love to do something like that! Weather has fascinated me since I was a little girl and I love storms. I had dreams at one time of being a storm chaser!! I need to see if there are any classes close to me :)

How cool! My hubby LOVES to watch the weather. He seriously should have been a meterologist... maybe he should look into this class for our area. How did the class go? Do you have to report in daily or just when you see something special going on?

There were a lot of people at the class - probably 200+ - I was surprised. Some of the people were already spotters that had to be re-certified (every 2 years).

It was a lot of info crammed into 2 1/2 hours ... they talked about different kinds of storms ... supercell, pulse storms, squall lines, funnel clouds, tornadoes - and what makes each of them unique and what to look for. We learned about wall clouds and shelf clouds and storm clouds. It was interesting! They showed a lot of videos of different storms and tornadoes and I have to admit, I was enthralled with them!

We are each given a unique ID # and given the phone # for the Quad Cities weather service to phone in anything we see that meets certain criteria. Not everyone that attended signed up - I think a lot of people just were there to see what it was all about.

It was interesting and fun and now I'm ready for storm season to be here so I can watch the skies! LOL!
