Stupid Volcano!

Oh, Kristine - hope there's a flight soon.

One of my friends is stuck in Florida (sounds terrible I know, lol, but she's supposed to be going to a wedding tomorrow and will also miss the start of term on Monday) and there are no flights at all in/from/to the UK.

And, I haven't been outside yet this morning (must get my rear in gear!) but a fb friend has commented that it is actually, quite literally, a bit stinky out there.

Wierd to think of a volcano affecting northern Europe actually. Iceland and its volcanoes always seem to be such a long way away!

Yes, you can definately smell it. Yesterday there was a rain-shower, and afterwards my car was covered in ash I think. It was clean when I went to work, and when I came out it was splattered with this grey/brown sticky stuff. I have never had volcanic ash on my car before! They are telling people to forget about drying clothes outside;)

I can totally relate. I am supposed to be visiting a friend in Germany this weekend but the airport is closed. I am hoping to change my flight for next week.

Thankfully it smells ok where I am, and I haven't seen any ash at all. I know they've definitely had it in Scotland but I'm in the south of England so escaping it (so far!)

If you have any respiratory problems, try to stay inside. Also, it's like very sharp glass, so if you have any rust on your vehicles, it can strip the paint right off. Volcanic ash is nasty nasty stuff!! I lived in Alaska and we were covered in ash several times...my dh truck totally lost all his paint.

I'm so sorry for everyone that needs to travel and can't, but I'm happy that they are taking these steps and cancelling these flights. It really could shut the engines down on a plane if they flew into the volcanic ash.

Oh goodness, hope he gets to come home to you soon! And for all those affected..thinking of you and hoping the duration and impact isn't too horrible!

Wow! I really hope it doesn't last long, or at least there are some good days where they can get stranded people home!

They're managing to get a few flights in to airports in the northern UK while there's a bit of a window of opportunity there. The forecast for the upper winds is that the plume will be heading more this way over the weekend so looks like the travel chaos will keep continue. Maybe that'll give a chance for some flights in Scandinavia.

I really feel for all the stranded people but they're doing the only thing they can really, I keep getting really annoyed with newsreaders demanding to know when flights will resume. Um, when the ash goes away, d'uh!

wow it's pretty bad. I hope something can be done to improve transport...especially if the volcano keeps erupting for a long period. Still exciting though and I'd love to go see it!
