Ok, so Bianca's bday was on Saturday and on my eyes it was a BLEH day. I somehow managed to BURN and undercooked pancakes. She wanted apple cider pancakes and I couldn't even eat them. She did, poor kiddo. Then I burnt the cake I was baking for her and I didn't even try making her bday dinner because I was just exhausted and frustrated with the day. Should I even try to bake another cake this weekend? Or should I just let it go? I am really struggling with this stupid COVID. It needs to go away, I am done! I am having constant stress headaches. I asked Bianca and she said she doesn't need it but I know my kiddo... she is has a sweet tooth the size of The Rock of Gibraltar!
Dalis, I think baking her a "makeup" cake is a sweet (pun intended!) gesture. It shows two things: 1. You care about her (she already knows this, of course!) and you want to make up for the burned cake and 2. it's important to get up, dust ourselves off, and try again*. And what's fun about baking a second cake is that it's a yummy way to show her those things! *even during the hellscape of 2020
i agree - give it a go - there's less pressure on you this time around if it's a surprise and she doesn't know about it - and i'm in agreement with the March Hare and Mad Hatter from Wonderland - it's so much better to celebrate 'un-birthdays' because there's so many more of them! (And don't feel bad about your pancakes, i made 'scrambled pancakes' when we went down the coast last month, really not my finest cooking day - we all have them (or so i'm still telling myself!)
I agree Dalis.. If it crossed your mind to make another then you know that is the answer. B knows sometimes things don't go as planned, so a make up cake will go well Re the pancakes... no worries, it happens.
Consolation story; I have had my cooker getting full of spilt over waffle batter ( to much bicarbonate in the mix ) every time I tried it, the "lid" lifted and batter flowed every where... Looking at me at the time were 8 guests including 2 near strangers and my mother in Law.... At that time my kitchen table was the only one big enough to seat 9.... soo moral of the story, no Time machine to fix it, so yes have a redo.... and maybe a small silly gift.
I might use that last statement as a title for a page! Thanks for that view, I didn't even think of it like #2.
I am not sure I want to know what "scrambled pancakes" are. LOL!!! I can tell her it's her un-birthday. LOVE IT!
Bianca even said, "You must be having an off day, your pancakes are always the best." Poor kiddo ate them even though I couldn't even look at them they were so bad. I should have taken a pic of them! LOL!!!
It used to be fun baking together, this year seems like she wants nothing to do with the kitchen. LOL!!! Maybe I'll make her do the chocolate mousse.
